The SMC Business Opportunity refers to the opportunity offered by Specialty Merchandise Corporation, a company that has been around for quite a few years. SMC gives you access to their inventory of several thousand products at wholesale price and you are required to sell their products. Specialty Merchandise Corporation promotes their advertisements on the back of prominent magazines and also have a few infomercials on the air. The merchandise they offer includes jewelry, gift items, general merchandise, and other collectible items. including many small decorative items. Specialty Merchandise Corporation has many vendors ( there are many similar companies offering similar merchandise as well) working for them trying to sell their products. In my opinion this is a major problem because you have hundreds of replicated sites selling the same products. For one, these sites are largely ignored by Google and other important search engines and this will cripple your traffic. Another problem is that it creates a level of competition in which no one is going to be largely successful. Why would someone buy something from your site if there are literally hundreds of identical web sites selling identical products. This level of competition also makes it impossible to sell items at their marked prices. You have to sell them at much lower prices and this makes your profit margin so small that you would need to sell hundreds of items per week to create any decent income. To add to all these problems, you have the fact that the demand for these products is extremely low. It's literally impossible to actually find any one person who wants to buy some of the products that SMC is selling. Once you subscribe or enroll with the SMC Business Opportunity, you will receive innumerable calls from salespersons that are very insistent on making you buy more and more supplies. Just like most other MLM's the only people making real money are the ones recruiting more people! I tried doing several MLM's a few years ago and I've got to tell you, the amount of effort it requires to squeeze out even the tiniest bit of returns simply isn't worth it. I don't waste my time with MLM's anymore because I found something that's a lot better. This opportunity has changed the way I think about making money.
