Pharming
Pharming is the sinister sibling of phishing. It too uses the social engineering techniques to obtain access credentials such as usernames and passwords. Thus the term pharming is quite often used combined with phishing as "pharming phishing." The term pharming, in computing terminology, means exploiting DNS server software to acquire the domain name for a certain website and then redirecting the web traffic of that website to another web site. The DNS servers are the tools responsible for resolving Internet names into their real addresses ...the "signposts" of the Internet. Pharming involves setting up a fake web site, which carries copies of pages from a legitimate web site in order to acquire the sensitive and confidential information from users. A hacker redirects the users to the bogus site (at least for some period of time until the DNS records can be restored) by hacking into DNS servers and changing IP addresses. For instance, if a hacker changes the DNS of an online banking website, the customers of that online bank could be automatically redirected to a bogus web site that looks exactly like the official website of that online bank. The criminals then collect the confidential information such as online account information, usernames and passwords. The worst thing about phishing is that it's very hard for a victim to protect themselves, instead of like pharming where you can simply ignore unsolicited e-mails.
